Although it was released in 1969, Stand! is all about the
70’s to me. I remember so much of this album from when I was little kid and
it’s virtually timeless… to me anyway. I used to love hearing it in my 20's when I was out drinking. Do the little 20-year-old pukes care
about Sly and old school Funk? Fuck them if they don’t. Go listen to your Best
Coast bullshit, jerks!
Stand! is a juggernaut! Clocking in at 41 minutes, there isn't much on this album I didn't know and it was a treat to hear it as a whole
body of work. “Stand!” “I Want To Take You Higher,” “Everyday People,” and
“Sing A Simple Song” make me feel so fucking cool when I’m listening to them
and I ain’t cool.
I wish “Don’t Call Me N*****, Whitey” had accomplished all
it set out to do. All my respect for trying, Sly!
Fuck me right in the ass for forgetting how much I loved all
of Adrenaline! Around The Fur, their second album, was so amazing that after
the digital age and MP3 players, all I went to from this album was “7 Words.”
Remember when record labels still had juice? It was absolutely hysterical in 1995 that this album was released on Maverick Records.
Fucking Madonna’s vanity label through Warner Bros! Maybe just to me and radio geeks, but hysterical!
“Bored,” “One Week,” and “Nosebleed” are just a couple
favorites from this record!
I used to love seeing the Deftones play live and during “7 Words,” right
before the breakdown, they would play all of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So” and
then when they finished the cover go right into “squeal like a pig when you pig
fuckin’, pig fuckin’, AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!” Just brilliant.
Chi Cheng get better!
I didn’t actually listen to fUN! Sum Nights. I just stared
at this picture and that dude’s man feet for 30 minutes. I’m pretty sure the album
would have sounded just like those manglers.
