2.8.13

On February 8th I listened to The Jimi Hendrix Experience Axis: Bold As Love, Living Colour Vivid, and TV On The Radio Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes.

I wasn’t too into Axis: Bold As Love until the sixth track “Little Wing” came up. Such a pretty song and it clocks in at a mere two minutes and twenty-four seconds. I’m surprised how into “If 6 Was 9” I was. It’s a little too hippie and trippy, but pretty cool. Wave your freak flag high, Jimi!

I forgot how much I used to love “Castles Made Of Sand.” Another classic I’m reclaiming and taking back from the overplayed masses!

The Noel Redding sung track “She’s So Fine,” almost doesn’t fit. But it reminds me of The Monkees, and a 90’s Indie Rock band I used to like called The Cavedogs. I dunno, maybe?

During “Bold As Love,” a solid track, I thought about how great of a storyteller Jimi was, and the "what if he was still alive" train of thought ran through my head. I would think he'd have about 25 kids with 30 woman, he would have almost ended his career with an album called Disco Go Go, he would have been on a special episode of The Cosby Show, he would have done well on Dancing With The Stars, he would have have done a collaboration with Dave Grohl and he would have gone on Howard Stern to tell disgusting sex stories... like Chuck Berry gross. How much fun would it have been to watch Jimi become an old man?

I could have sworn Vivid was released in 1990, or maybe 1991. It came out in 1988! I remember being really into this whole album, but man it does not hold up! Oh and I forgot that Mick Jagger was involved in the production of this record. I think he sings on “Glamour Boys.” I dunno, maybe?

“Cult Of Personality” is a Rock radio staple! As long as there is rock radio, this song will get played once a day in every town in America! And rightly so, it’s a brilliant song, but I only need to hear it like once a month or so.

After “C.O.P.” this records spends the next 30 minutes sounding about as hip as going to see Tiffany perform at the mall.

“I Want To Know” sets the tone with its dopey “hey kids” opening line and gem of a chorus, “I want to know. Gimme a sign, girl. Open your heart and tell me that you’re mine.” Corey Glover you make out master!

I used to think “Open Letter (To A Landlord)” was this very important song. Now it reminded of stuff the dipshits down at Occupy Wall Street would say.

OK, there is no shortage of turds on Vivid, but there’s some great stuff too. I always love to hear “Glamour Boys.” It’s just dumb fun.

“What’s Your Favorite Color?” and “Which Way To America” are two songs on par with “Cult Of Personality” and I don’t listen to them enough. I gotta change that ASAP! I have a stupid question. Why is “color” not spelled like the band’s name in “What’s Your Favorite Color?”

I never liked TV On The Radio. I have tried and tried to understand TV On The Radio. This listen didn't do anything for me and I’m not going to try anymore. If you like this crap… God bless you.
