2.9.13

On February 9th I listened to De La Soul 3 Feet High And Rising, Teenage Fanclub Bandwagonesque, and Tegan And Sara Heartthrob

I picked De La Soul And Teenage Fanclub because they did a song together on the Judgment Night soundtrack. I listen to “Fallin’” all the time and have been neglecting these two bands. I picked Tegan And Sara just to dump on it.

Has anyone in the audience ever been hit by a car?

This isn’t just an album, it’s an accomplishment. Dense, layered, funky, positive and funny, 3 Feet High And Rising is a near masterpiece! It loses points for being a little corny at times and it’s just a pube too long. It could stand to lose a couple minutes.

This album is such a good time! Chock-Full-O-Hits! Chock-Full-O-Samples, you can’t make a record like this anymore! “The Magic Number,” “Say No Go,” “Me, Myself And I,” and “Jennifa Taught Me” are forever embedded in my mind.

I used to know this album by heart, but I forgot how great “Eye Know,” and “Plug Tunin’” are! Both are going into my regular rotation, straightaway!

Then there are the goofball tracks! “Can U Keep A Secret,” “Take It Off!” “A Little Bit Of Soap,” and “Potholes In My Lawn,” find De La Soul just having genuine fun!

I implore you! Listen to this album if you haven’t in a while or never have! It’s genius!

The amount of time that has passed since I last listened to all of Bandwagonesque is almost criminal!

Harmonious vocals and jangly guitar heaven, this album is pure Pop! An almost flawless collection of addicting songs, Bandwagonesque is all hooks. I don’t even mind the instrumentals! When “Is This Music?” fires up at the end of the disc, it almost acts as the closing credits theme. This album is so fucking good it deserves credits. “Oh George Peckham mastered the album. He did a great job! I just wanna stick around and see who mixed it."

Since the advent of the MP3 player, and my decline in album listening, I’m pissed I've been ignoring brilliance within the confines of my digital storage. If I threw Teenage Fanclub songs on a playlist, I usually picked “The Concept,” “December,” “What You Do To Me,” or “Star Sign.” Completely ignoring shit like “Metal Baby,” “Sidewinder,” “I Don’t Know,” and “Acoholiday.” I pretty much just named the whole album!

Thank you 2013 - The Year Of Music for bringing Teenage Fanclub back to me! And I gotta remember to listen to some Big Star albums this year.

Bandwagonesque Fun Facts!

1. Gene Simmons got money because he owns the trademark of the money bag on the cover. F U Gene!

2. The idiots at Spin named it album of the year in 1991, beating out Nevermind. Typical music journo bullshit. It was Top 5 for sure, but No.1? Pffffffffffffffffffffffft!

I don’t like Tegan And Sara. They annoy me and I only picked this album because I wanted to poop all over it. I had heard “Closer” when the video popped up online at the end of 2012 and I instantly hated it. I even posted this picture on my Twitter account.

I Can Never Tell Tegan And Sara Apart.
After De La Soul and Teenage Fanclub, I was not looking forward to having to listen to this album. Oddly enough, during “Closer,” something occurred to me… it reminds me of The Wombats. (Can somebody get a note to The Wombats to cover this song!) After I came to that realization, I somehow began to like “Closer.” It’s a fucking hit. God damn you Tegan And Sara!!!!!! I even listened to it twice!

But, I figured that was enough and pulled the plug on the rest of the album. I think admitting to liking ONE Tegan And Sara song was enough for me today.
